I might be helping out Yen Magazine's Curvy book launch/art exhibition.
Check it out the launch party this Thursday (April 3rd 8pm-11pm) at the Mori Gallery (168 Day Street in Sydney... near Bathurst Street/China Town/Darling Harbour area/Town Hall station).
I was checking out the artworks today.. they're great.

Just a friday night taking portraits..

Pet Cemetary at the Oxford Art Factory is pretty cool.
There was a performance by Kirin (and a few others from Mercy Arms).
I took very few photos. haha

The new art on the walls is very awesome. It's by this guy called Andy Uprock.

So I still have the problem of having the photos all awesome on my computer/Lightroom then uploading them into flickr and it gets dull. Help?

In other news, I need to get my act together and make a portfolio so I can do something with my life, besides hanging out all day (everyday) and occasionally busting out the camera....

wowowowowow!
The Fiona Hall exhibition at the MCA is amazing!
& Art Express 2008 at the Art Gallery of NSW is quite impressive. My favourite is the artwork by Neil Pearson. Very talented.

So we had the TEETH art party yesterday. It was cool. I didn't take many photos but everyone else used my camera coz my hands were filthy (& covered in glitter!)
Photos are on myspace. I didn't realise myspace kills the quality of photos when you upload them..

Future is Now

The Gaelic (Surry Hills) is pretty much my new favourite venue to shoot at. The lighting is brilliant. The smoke is great. What more can you ask for when shooting live music? :)

So last night I went to Future is Now which had a bunch of cool bands playing to an all ages crowd. I got to see The Jezabels, The Wahas, Tic Toc Tokyo and Young & Restless. Check out these bands, they're pretty awesome.

Since the lighting and everything was so good, I ended up taking heaps of photos (a lot of the same sort of thing with different lights/smoke pattern... I couldn't resist). I really liked how the photos turned out.

Brisbane, QLD

So Brisbane was better than I expected. I had a good time exploring places and whatnot.

The Andy Warhol exhibition was excellent. I was so amazed and overwhelmed and excited about everything there.

I'm not too fond of Brisbane nightlife though. Especially Family (the club in the Valley). What is with that place? Its dodgy theme park interiors and music were just ugh. I was expecting it to be a cool place to go after the recommendations from the locals but yeah...

Queen Street is kind of neat. It's like a big Pitt Street Mall with outdoor restaurants/cafes in the middle.
The amount of kids hanging outside the Hungry Jacks on Saturday was a bit odd. It was as if HJ was the place to be or something.

Southbank area is pretty awesome. I stumbled across Streets Beach. The free outdoor fake beach. It looks really cool at night with the changing underwater lights.

P.S Jetstar is pretty crap and Brisbane airport's lack of everything is disappointing.

SOME PHOTOS.

And Ben Lee is so little, we passed each other at Sydney International Airport.

Oh yeah, I fell down my stairs before even going to the airport on Friday morning and I'm really bruised. It was really funny at the time but then I was in a lot of pain.

This is me in October 07. I had my camera for about 2 weeks and didn't know how to use it properly and I refused to use any of the auto modes.
I'm still learning.

Here's a flashback.
(photosets of my first month with my camera)
Moon festival
Portraits & junk in black&white
First time in Newcastle for This Is Not Art
and of course..
First band photos

Well I'm going to Brisbane tomorrow to check out the Andy Warhol exhibition.
See ya on Sunday arvo.

I was having a really really bad day/night but it got much better when I went by to the St James Hotel for PA's birthday. Not where I usually would hang but it was fun. :)

Good times. Big smiles.
PHOTOS

So I've got this problem.. I see the photos one way (I use Adobe Lightroom) and when I upload them the colour gets dull/greyer/murky. What's the deal?

06/03/08 - Beachball

The bands that I saw (Dardanelles, bluejuice & Damn Arms) were awesome though I only took photos of Dardanelles..

MORE.

I didn't enjoy the night.. it was weird.

5/3/08 - Beirut

A few weeks ago I missed out on Beirut tickets as I didn't even know about it and was really sad about it. Thanks to fasterlouder/Handsome touring, I got to go to the gig the other day which happened at Manning Bar, University of Sydney. Hooray.
It was exciting because I got my first photo pass and it was my first time photographing for FL.
I was the only one photographing at the barrier and maybe that's why they let me stay there for about 6 songs, instead of the standard 3 songs..

Trumpets, ukeleles, accordions.....It was such an amazing show and I'm quite happy with how the photos turned out.

The Opera House looks strange when you look at it up close.

This guy is from the future.

Saturday, March 01, 2008

Despite being born and raised in Sydney, I think this is the first time I've ever taken a picture of the Opera House.
So we were going to check out Slaughter at the Opera but looking at the humungo amount of people there and lining up to get in, we didn't.
Instead, we went all around the city and I took a few photos of street performers. The guy who does the art is amazing!

Tonight is the Mardi Gras. I am not there as I need to get up early tomorrow for another adventure.
:D
